Nvidia software engineer Aaron Plattner have stated that he is currently working on an optimus driver for Linux which can actually switch between GPUs just like in Windows!
Recently, Nvidia got a lot of criticism from the Linux world. Many complained that Nvidia is doing very little to release Linux drivers for their GPUs. For example, the latest devices with the Optimus Auto Graphic Switching technology didn’t had proper Linux drivers. So, no graphic switching in Linux! I had a similar problem but my GPU is ATI.
The biggest critic is our (Linux people’s) father… Linux Torvalds! He openly offended Nvidia (by showing a finger) in a recent event. I think Nvidia took it seriously. So, now, we might get better support from them. Thank you Linus!
