Microsoft Sold 4 Million Windows 8 Copies? True or False?

Windows 8

According to Steve Ballmer Microsoft have sold nearly 4 million copies of Windows 8 this weekend! Can we buy that? Several days ago, reports showed that many people didn’t knew about Windows 8 and more than half of those who know it doesn’t want to buy it! Those reports also questioned about the missing sales reports from Microsoft. Just after that, Steve say they sold 4 million copies!

Can we buy this? If those reports are true, Microsoft is lying. Some people even want more information about Microsoft’s reports. Where did they come from? What are their sources? It’s still a big mystery!

First off, at first, one could upgrade to 8 Pro w/free Media Center (that’s not free any longer) for $40 or $15 if a new computer was purchased between 06/02/12 & 01/31/13. Now, upgrades are $200 & that’s not counting the Media Center (an additional $10). The only requirement for the $40 upgrade was either to have an underlying license for a prior version of Windows, or had the Consumer or Release Preview version of Windows 8 installed, as I did. This kept me from having to give up my Windows 7 installs & am dual booting both Windows 8 & 7 on two of my computers.

Also, many of those licenses were sold to OEM’s as stickers (known as COA’s) to build new computers with. There’s no shortage of Windows 8 computers on the market, online & at local retailers. However, Windows 7 ones are going fast, & so are the copies for home users to install. Many who has purchased one of these Windows 8 computers have already “upgraded” to Windows 7.

Windows 8 is OK, it does require a learning curve (as did 7 to XP users). However, at $200, it’s dead. Plus MS is attempting the Apple way of doing business (the MS store) & Windows 8 even informs MS what apps it’s users are installing.

The bottom line: Windows 7 is the next XP. An OS that many will run until 2020, when it goes out of support. Who knows, it may, just as with XP, get an extension of it’s life, if MS doesn’t get their act together.
